Start with a normal Tuesday
Ask when everyone gets up, who works from home, and when the house usually winds down. Talk about sleep, calls and shared space without asking people to justify personal circumstances.
Agree what “clean” means
Be specific: dishes by the end of the day? A weekly bathroom rota? Shared cleaning supplies? A practical agreement is more useful than everyone saying they are tidy.
Money, guests and the shared fridge
Confirm how rent, council tax where applicable, internet and energy bills are shared. Discuss overnight guests, communal food and what happens when someone goes away. Put agreements in writing.
Leave room for differences
You don’t need identical hobbies. You do need enough understanding to manage differences respectfully. Ask how people prefer to raise concerns and review household arrangements together.
